I'm now offering 4 models of spalling hammers. They all feature rotating heads to eliminate uneven wear and greatly extend the life of the hammer. I offer small and large heads in both copper and mild steel. I've been testing my prototypes for several months and have spalled literally tons of both chert and obsidian with them. Either model will provide many years of service. Yielding larger spalls with less shatter than other tools. |
COPPER HEADED SPALLING HAMMERS |
MILD STEEL HEADED SPALLING HAMMERS |
Both sizes of mild steel spalling hammers feature the softest mild steel available. Each model has rotating heads for extremely long life. Both sizes have 5 inch long heads. The more you use them the better they get. My 1 3/4" diameter hammer weighs 4 3/4 pounds and is great for heavy spalling on any kind of rock, even obsidian. The 1 1/4" diameter model weighs over 3 pounds and will allow you to get maximum yield from even the smallest nodule or irregular chunk. I use mine daily for making flakes. It is also great for use in the field for testing rock. |
